All about brass

I have been a specialist brass teacher since 2009 inspiring pupils from the age of 5 to 105 to become passionate about the world of brass music.

My musical journey started in primary school when I was given a trombone to play for the first time and I have never looked back. Over the years I picked up a pair of drumsticks and turned my hand to playing the drums and then euphonium. I graduated from the London College of Music in 2014 under the tutorage of Dave Whitson and Pete Lacey.

As a performer I have played with many well known orchestras, brass bands and wind bands as well as multiple chamber ensembles. I also regularly enjoy playing for shows for local drama companies. I also conduct a number of ensembles including wind bands and brass bands. Under my baton I have led multiple brass bands to promotion  in the brass band area competitions.

I have also had concertos written for me as a performer and a published composer of Viajamos - 12 Modern Trombone Duets written with Mr P Stones

I adapt my teaching style to suit the needs of the pupil whether it is building confidence to get that first note or rehearsing the finer points of the concerto for a recital or auditions for music college. Each lesson is tailored specifically to the individual, in the world of music there is not one size that fits all and I enjoy learning about and celebrating unique qualities of all my pupils individually.

There are so many wonderful experiences and memories to be made in the musical world and I encourage all of my pupils to make the most of them and most importantly have fun.

Viajamos- 12 Modern Trombone Duets

I am pleased to say that the duet book written with Pete stones is now available to purchase through Warwick Music. These are great fun to play and all of them set challenges.

Stones & Rhodes: Viajamos - 12 Modern Trombone Duets

Stones: Concertino - Trombone and Piano

The piece was written as a performance piece for the modern, advanced trombonist. It was written for a recital of a friend of mine, the superb trombonist, Stephen Rhodes. Being a brass player myself, I have seen it as an opportunity to show the voice the trombone can have as a versatile instrument reflecting a wide range of emotions through the music it produced.
